Not long after Jairus was born, we started noticing this growth and stretching of his belly button. We'd never seen anything like it. When we went to take him in for his 2 month check up, the doctor had told us what we already kind of figured. He had an umbilical hernia. It's not a big deal, in fact, it's common for children under a certain weight to have them. The doctor told us it should clear up on it's own by about the time he is 1 or so. Here is a picture of what it looks like.
We did receive some good news though from his 2 month check up. Jairus has now doubled his birth weight and is now in the 18th percentile for his weight so at least he is growing. I can't believe how big my little man is getting already.

I've actually seen that before working at the day care. Does he experience pain from it?
No he doesn't thankfully! The doctor said that if it gets more red, bigger in size or harder then we need to take him in immediately because those are signs of it becoming strangulated. Thankfully, it seemed to be decreasing in size.
sam had a hernia too, but his was down by his pelvis. his didn't hurt either, except for one night it got really hard instead of squishy and he was screaming in pain. so scary.
anyway, the good thing for you is you don't have to do surgery. i don't know if you saw on my blog, but sam had to have surgery to take his away. no fun. count your blessings that you don't have to.
