This is my "ethnicity estimate." I thought it was pretty cool, but now I kind of feel like a mutt. Tali thought it was really cool because I am "part African." I had to remind her it was less than 1%. It was fun to see these results and I'm glad I did it. For those interested, I just got an email yesterday that the kits are on sale for $79 when they are normally $99. I highly recommend doing it. I was a bit surprised by some of my results.

DNA Results!
A while ago, Brian and I decided to do a DNA test for genealogy purposes. He got his results back, but I had to resubmit my sample. Big shocker. 51% is from...wait for it...Scandanavia. Big shock with the pale skin, red highlights, and green eyes. I had a pretty good guess it would mostly be from Sweden and Norway. It was kind of cool though to see how many matches of how many close relatives there were. I am hoping to get in touch with some of them and perhaps add more to my genealogy. I will look more into it, but for now, I need to go to bed. Tomorrow will be a busy day.

First Day of School
I'm a little behind on things right now. It's been a bit of a frustrating week. Anyway, here are some collages I made of the kids' first day of school. Tali and Jairus started on August 22nd, but Zach didn't start until August 23rd. They all seem to really enjoy their teachers.

Scouts & Opportunities
I (Amy) have been in scouts for just about three years. At first, I hated scouts. I didn't like the politics of it. At the time, there was this decision made about homosexual men teaching scouts when board members of the church were unable to attend because of General Conference or something. I can't remember all of the details at the moment, but there had been talk about the LDS church possibly pulling out of the scouting program. At that time I was wishing they would have. President Thomas S Monson must have decided the scouting program was too important to walk away from because we (the LDS aka Mormon church) are still a part of scouting. I didn't consider myself "scout leader" material at all. I always thought the scout leader had to be someone much less girly than me. I mean, come on. I squirm when I see snakes, spiders, certain bugs and creepy crawlers.
I had asked to be released after having Silas. They told me it would be a few weeks. We then had a committee meeting one Sunday to discuss pack meeting and other things coming up. As I sat there, I got this distinct impression that "I was not done." It was almost as if someone was basically telling me that I needed to change my attitude toward scouting. Obviously, President Monson thought it was important enough to be a part of, so I should sustain him in that decision. If it was good enough for President Monson, it was good enough for me. Since then, I had tried to change my attitude with success. I grew to love it and the boys more and more. When I was first in scouts, I taught Wolves for about two years and had two different companions. I then was moved to Webelos (teaching my first group that I had as Wolves) when about a month after I was informed I would be getting a new companion. This was in late February, early March. It is now August, and I still don't have an official Assistant Den Leader. Not for a lack of trying. There was a lot going on that I won't go into because this blog is still public. It was okay though because my friend and scout liaison Camilla Frank was a big help and did as much as she could. I later recruited Brian and he was more than happy to help. He and I make a good team. We taught in Nursery years ago when Tali and Jairus were younger and it worked great! He's so good to work with and I feel that together, things go more smoothly.
At our last committee meeting, we were discussing parental involvement and me needing a new, official companion and my frustrations. I mentioned how I felt we as scout leaders were being ignored. I talked about and bore my testimony of scouting before I even knew what I was saying, words were just flowing out of my mouth and I started getting a little emotional. After the meeting I leaned over to our Cub Master and said "Watch. I bet now that I'm feeling more comfortable with scouts, they'll (the bishopric) will release me." We both kind of chuckled at that. The funny thing is, I got this impression like someone was saying "okay, now you're done."
That afternoon, I went in and spoke with our bishop about my frustrations with still not having an official companion called. I told him I felt like we were being forgotten and that we were losing another leader (because they were moving) and I was concerned with what was going to happen. I told him I loved scouts, but I couldn't keep doing it on my own. My good bishop was understanding. He asked how long I had been in scouts and I told him about three years. I had learned a lot and proceeded to tell him of the changing experiences I had. He told me that my name had come up for other callings and asked how I would feel with a new calling. I had to kind of laugh because my thoughts went back to what our Cub Master and I had discussed earlier that day. I told him how much I really loved my scouts, but I will do whatever it was they needed me to do. So, I guess for now, I just wait.
There were some other changes recently too. My visiting teaching route was changed. I'm okay with it though because now I have my friends Camilla, Leora, and a possible distant cousin. I'm actually kind of excited. I was also recently asked to help out with some humanitarian projects through our stake Relief Society for the General Women's Conference and broadcast coming up. I felt so grateful to be a part of this great project! I can't wait to get started! I feel as though this opportunity was just what I needed. I felt so strongly about helping out, so I'm very grateful to be involved this way.

Silas's 1st Birthday!
I cannot believe how quickly year has passed away! I was going over some photos and memories of when this little one was born. He definitely gave us a good scare! I didn't get the chance to hold him or care for him as much as I would have liked the first week of his life. When he was born, he wasn't breathing very well on his own because he had a lot of gunk in his lungs and had pneumonia. He was born at only 4lbs. 15oz. and was 17.5 in. long. There were other issues, but I think I may have blocked them out. He had to be on a breathing and feeding tube. It was agony seeing him hooked up to so many machines. However, we are truly blessed by the good Lord who spared his life so that we could celebrate his first birthday! He is a fighter and a warrior! I cannot begin to describe how relieved Brian and I both felt when we were able to take him home. Every day with this boy (as well as our other children) is a gift and a blessing that I thank God for! My life has been so enriched!

Little Buddies
One day I decided to do an impromptu photo shoot with our two baby boys. It's was so fun. Our boys were so good. Silas looked at us like we were a couple of weirdos, but we soon converted him. Hehe!
Zachy Vader is 3!
Our little Zachy recently turned 3!
We decided to throw a Star Wars party for him with kids from his nursery class at church. It was a lot of fun, but a little stressful. We did a little mini Jedi training, played a game where I taped a bunch of stormtrooper pictures on some cups and one Vader picture in the middle where they had to try to shoot Vader with a Nerf gun, and then we had a Vader piƱata. I thought it ended up pretty cool.
This boy is all about Darth Vader, Kylo Ren & Yoda.
My Love!
A few weeks ago, I was challenged to post photos of Brian and I that support strong marriages. I came across these photos of when we were dating.
Terrific Talitha
Tali can be pretty feisty, but she is also such a terrific girl! She's very friendly. She's also very creative. She went visiting teaching with me one day and made a giraffe for our dear friend Leora all on her own. She loves reading and this summer we had gone to our local school for story time and a craft. She was always so excited to go.
Campfire FHE & Nutella Scones!
My family discovered something not long ago. Nutella scones! They are a bit of Heaven on Earth! My only complaint is obviously the grease because it is fried. The Nutella adds that extra goodness of hazelnuts and chocolate!
11 Months Old!
Why do kids have to grow up so fast?!? Silas is now almost a year! Here are some photos I took for his 11 months.
Jairus Turns 6!
I am so blown away at how fast these kids grow up! It seemed like yesterday I held him as an infant. This kid is so sweet and has a heart of gold. He will let you know loud and clear if you're doing something wrong or something he doesn't like. I love this kid!
The birthday theme he chose was Lion Guard. For those of you who don't know, Lion Guard is like Lion King, but the main character (Kion) is Simba and Nala's son.
Lagoon Fun
To celebrate Jairus's birthday as a family, we decided to go to Lagoon. We had a lot of fun...most of the time. We even spent some time at Lagoona Beach. It was super hot so the water felt great! Although I would recommend wearing water shoes. The ground was hot and rough!
Independence Day!
Here are some of our Independence Day fun.
Brian and I decided we wanted to get to know the neighbors better so we bought a bunch of food for breakfast and invited them over. We had a few show up and it was fun so we are going to make it an annual thing. š
Friends, family & and food!

New Hobby?
I had recently bought a wood burning tool from the Scouts Store. I was hoping to use it for Arrow of Light awards at Pack Meeting. I decided I should at least practice. I don't think it turned out too bad. Obviously, I still need some more practice though.
Monson Family Crest
On June 30th, I was doing some genealogy and came across this Monson Family Crest. I thought it was pretty dang cool! It actually kind of reminded me of the Griffindor colors from Harry Potter. Yes, I'm a nerd, but I don't care.
Marshmallow Maniac
On June 26th, we had been doing family scriptures and as a reward for listening, we gave the kids marshmallows. BIG mistake! Silas LOVES them!...A little too much.
Goofy Zachy
Zach can be such a character. You never know what kind of silly things he'll do. I have to have a camera around me a lot so I can capture some of his silly moments.
Ancestry DNA Tests
On June 13th, Brian and I received our Ancestry DNA tests. We thought it would be fun to see what it's like. Brian got his results back which was kind of interesting, but a little disappointing. It was more of a history lesson than really telling about his DNA. There were however some really interesting things with one particular DNA match though. There was one DNA match that I think may have been my biological father, but I couldn't be sure because Biran didn't want to click on it. I found it kind of interesting.
My DNA results have not come back yet because I had to redo the test so I get to wait for about another two months. We were pretty excited though.
Mommy Moments
I usually get up quite early most days and to my surprise I found this cute little note waiting for me from my baby girl on June 8th. I have some pretty sweet kids. I really love all of her notes.
The Good, The Bad, The Ugly
The Good:
On June 7th, we were finally able to hook up our double sink for the boys! It's taken a while, but it's slowly coming along nicely. It looks so much better than being in the middle of the room with a bunch of construction stuff piled on top.We have running water!!!
The Bad:
So after having the bathroom looking like this for just under two months, we decided to potty train our little Zach. Our Zach LOVES playing in water just as much as his big brother, but is a bit more mischievous.
He spilled water all over in mine and Brian's bathroom floor (so on top of all of these other projects, we also get to remodel our bathroom too. Glorious!
The Ugly:
We assume Zach was going potty and then started messing with the tank lid and.....SMASH!
We tried to glue it back together, but the glue set so fast it wouldn't set right. Oh well. It works for now. I tried looking for a replacement, but they were discontinued at Home Depot. Mind you this toilet is a year old. Then when I checked with the company who made it, they had one left, but wanted $65 plus shipping and tax which would come out to about $75-80. So for now, we will just deal with it.
Hot Dog!
So back on June 7th, we introduced our little man to hot dogs. He devoured them! I was so glad to know there was something else to feed him.
