The initial cost of the freeze dryer is pretty expensive, but we both felt that this was very important to be able to get our food storage and then help others. There was only one company that makes freeze driers which is why it was so expensive. We had looked into Thrive Life foods which is prepared freeze dried food, but we wanted options that weren't offered. So, here is our new freeze dryer.
We were told that each batch takes about 24-36 hours. There are four trays that you are able to put food on. We are so ecstatic to start! For our. first batch, we decided to freeze dry celery (which I LOVE, but my family doesn't), strawberries, and.....ice cream sandwiches. What would food storage be without some kind of goodie? I want to do some brownies, cheesecake, and other yummy desserts. Laugh now, but we want to enjoy the food we put away. We of course will have healthy food too. We just wanted to try it because we can. ;) Here is our very first batch of food we are freeze drying today. I can't wait until tomorrow to see the results!
